The „Bibliotheks- und Medienzentrale der Evangelischen Kirche der Pfalz (short: BMZ  Speyer)“ provides everyone within the boundaries of the Protestant Church of the Palatine (Evangelische Kirche der Pfalz)– regardless of denomination – with literature, audio-visual material and information about theology, the church and the world. It is a theological-scientific research library and at the same time media centre for the regional church of the Palatinate. Its exhibitions, lectures and publications are part of the churches’ educational and public relations work. The reading room is a place where encounters and theological exchange take place. As a public institution, our materials and services are available to all those interested.

The BMZ cooperates with other educational institutions. It is a member of library- and media-orientated associations and working groups and part of various library networks.

Simultaneously the BMZ serves as an administrative library for the personnel of the regional churches administration (“Landeskirchenrat”). It also manages the sheet music library for the Amt für Kirchenmusik (the department of church music), the library of the Verein für Pfälzische Kirchengeschichte (an association which mostly collects works about the Palatinates history) as well as the library of the Butenschoen-Haus in Landau (a conference house for pastors in training).

The central catalogue for the Protestant Church of the Palatinate (“Zentralkatalog der Evangelischen Kirche der Pfalz”) shows the entire library stock of the BMZ Speyer, including essays, articles, sermons, teaching materials; as well as other holdings of church departments.

The use of the BMZ is free of charge. You can loan books and media directly from the reading room – and the stack-rooms by asking the staff for help. We also have a special service of loaning books and sending them to you via postal service. Many journals and periodicals are available online via the catalogue. The competent support of our customers as well as prompt replies to your inquiries are of great concern to our library- and theologically trained team.
